Code-named W212, the new executive sedan will be revealed at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Different models are shown here undergoing various tests across Germany. Styling will mimic that of the larger S-Class, though the artist's impressions also show a distinct similarity to current Lexus models.
However, a rising shoulder line, more prominent wheelarches and a wedge-shaped profile should give the new E-Class a more dynamic appearance.
Few details are known about the W212, but it will abandon the current Sensotronic Brake Control system in favour of conventional brakes with features such as wet-weather disc wiping and wheel-selective cornering brake control.
Optional ceramic composite discs will probably be introduced on the AMG models after which it will filter down the rest of the range.
The level of driver aids will be stepped up too. Lane departure warnings, an eye-movement monitor, traffic sign identification, road condition sensors and a stability control system that makes allowances for crosswinds, camber changes and tyre wear.
