Free State gets R60m roads boost

Road maintenance in the Free State has received an additional R60.1-million in the provincial adjustment budget, it was announced on Thursday, November 15, 2012.

Free State finance MEC Seiso Mohai said some R53.5-million roll-over funds from the previous financial year were earmarked for the maintenance of provincial roads.

REPRIORITISING

A further R6.5-million was found by reprioritising government spending to road maintenance.

Mohai said: "As a province we had no option but to reprioritise within the allocated budget for the 2012/13 financial year."

Total funding available for the provincial adjustment budget was R934-million, he said in the provincial legislature.

The MEC urged government departments to completely eradicate inefficiencies within the system.

"We urge departments and public entities, again, to continue to remain within their baselines."
