Fräuleins say foreign's finer

ESSEN, Germany - Audi, BMW, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz. They'll all need to boost their appeal among the fairer sex as German fräuleins opt for foreign rides.

Female car-buyers in Germany are tending to opt for automakers other than those domestic.

NEW ESCHEWED

The most popular cars among German females in 2012 were the Fiat 500 (Italian), Ford Ka (USA)  and the Hyundai i10 (South Korea), according to the CAR Institute at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Women account for 61% of German car-buyers with the country reporting 1.18-million units sold in 2012.

Women aged under 30, however, showed a distinct lack of interest in buying a car at all - only 41 000 registered a new vehicle in 2012.
