GRENOBLE, France - A medical expert has admitted he was alarmed at reports showing former F1 driver Michael Schumacher has lost a quarter of his body weight whilst in a coma in France.
Although his family, manager Sabine Kehm and close friend Jean Todt insist they have not given up on the hope of full recovery, 12 weeks have passed since the former Ferrari and Mercedes driver's skiing incident.
The 45-year-old weighed about 75kg when he crashed on the Meribel slopes and has reportedly lost 20kg in hospital.
WEIGHT LOSS
Italian and German newspapers reported that Schumacher now weighs just 55kg.
Prof Dr Curt Diehm, who works at the Karlsbad teaching hospital in Germany, said: "While a weight loss in coma patients is normal, 20kg is a lot for people with normal body weights.
"One must assume that his muscles have degraded greatly due to the immobility."
