Dakar-styled Hilux now in SA

2013-07-25 14:21

Hot on the heels of its special-edition Fortuner, Toyota has launched another limited model, this time of its best-selling bakkie - the Toyota Hilux Dakar Edition.

The range celebrates the stellar performance of the Hilux in the 2013 Dakar Rally and the announcement of the new Dakar model coincides with Toyota SA’s Dakar team for the 2014 event.

The Dakar edition will only be available from July 01 to September 30 2013 on Raider models but of all body types (Single, Xtra and Double Cab).

'ATTRACTIVE PROPOSITION'

Kerry Roodt, general manager of Toyota SA, said: “I'm delighted that we have announced the arrival of the Dakar Edition, which offers a fresh approach to our tough Hilux range.

“Its combination of bold, rugged looks with a high level of standard equipment makes it an attractive proposition for the style- and value-conscious buyer.”

Exterior enhancements include stainless-steel nudge bar, rear styling and door steps with a Dakar logo. Other style tweaks include a rear bumper with towhitch, a black load-bay cover and grey alloy rims. The model also benefits from body coloured mirrors and door releases as well as Dakar badging.

The interior is enhanced with black leather seats with red stitching, leather door inserts, black carpets and a reversing camera (Xtra Cab and Double Cab).

I'm dissapointed. They did not even add new Mags.

  • Scott Llewellyn Davies - 2013-07-25 15:53

Oh look, it's a Hilux, that says "Dakar" on the back. Oh and it's being stolen just as fast the the standard Hilux. ;-)

What a joke, talk about flogging a dead horse for a 2004 designed vehicle. Lekke "Dakar" plakkie on my gat...if you going to do this Toyota, offer better suspension, more power, upgraded trim...can see Toyota is in tuff times.

      Jeff Jones - 2013-07-25 18:23

Haha. What are you talking about? Toyota sells twice as many bakkies as the nearest rival. Most people in SA know Toyota is the best car in the world and the sales figures show it.

      Brutus Mcgreggor - 2013-07-25 19:50

Jeff, most of those hiluxes are puny single cab delivery ones, the double groot menere is outsold many times by the likes of the ranger and amaroks

      Jeff Jones - 2013-07-25 20:32

Really? Where did you suck out that info? Amoroc can't even sell 600 units a month with it's single cabs. Ford seems to be doing well, but there are still way more d4d's on the road and it will stay that way for a long time, because it's about service, reliability, customer support and resale value. But drive your little amaroc, just don't cry like a little girl when that lawnmower engine bends all of its valves

      Brutus Mcgreggor - 2013-07-25 22:14

Ja Jeff, still living in the fifties it seems

  • Brutus Mcgreggor - 2013-07-25 16:36

Half a mil for this ancient crap, bwaahaaaaa haaaaaa, and to think some idiots will still go and buy it

  • Joe Moer - 2013-07-25 17:34

Kerry, you don't deserve to be GM of TSA! Now really what is there to be delighted about??

  • Love Ness - 2013-07-25 18:26

A double cab 4x4 starts at a cool R474K, this can cause me to choke really for a car with a decade old design, technology....

      Brutus Mcgreggor - 2013-07-25 19:51

Passop, the hilux brigade is going to crucify you

  • Jackey Moss - 2013-07-25 19:56

    500k for a van ????

  • James Marais - 2013-07-25 21:01

Pretty poor show from TSA. 3 more years till the next Hilux, you guys are going to have to do better than adding "Dakar" to your model name to keep sales up in the next 3 years.

  • Graham Swart - 2013-07-26 07:16

Very disapointing! They could have done a better job than take the standard Hilux and soup it up with a vinal sticker or 2.....this is what they should have done: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QxwNt2WGre0/UMHzFlb-SDI/AAAAAAAAO_U/rgpOlePTwfg/s640/2013+Dakar+Toyota+Hilux+South+Africa+3.jpg

Pricing on the top spec might be a tad much plus the design is getting really old. Perhaps they should include an entry level Yaris with that price.

  • Leon Janse van Rensburg - 2013-07-29 08:49

Man I'm just glad Toyota is rolling on with this, probably the tenth version of the Hilux launched in 2005, it just means that my 2006 Hilux is not depreciating at the ridiculous rate of most vehicles.
