SAC's 'instant urge' Triton

Mitsubishi Motors has recently launched the new Triton 2.5 D-iD into South Africa's highly competitive leisure and light commercial vehicle market. And Steves Auto Clinic are once again already able to offer owners of this turbodiesel machine a simple solution that adds instant urge to their vehicle.

The Triton is initially available only as double cab 4x4 and boasts an all-new common rail direct injection powerplant. The new 2.5 litre, turbocharged, intercooled engine is a much quieter, cleaner and more economical than ever before. It also helps in producing a very decent 100 kW at 3 500 r/min and 314 Nm of torque at 2 000 r/min in the below 3.0 litre turbodiesel class.

This power and torque does a sufficient job of providing drive for the Triton, but if there is one draw back, it is that the Triton never seems to have a huge amount of urge at any point through the rev range. And the tested figures back this feeling up with the 0-100 km/h sprint coming up in almost 16 seconds and the in-gear acceleration in 5th gear also being a bit on the slow side.

But, as we know, sufficient has never been enough for the team at SAC. By simply fitting a plug and play Powerplug to the vehicle, instant urge is safely and reliably added. The Triton now feels more like a 3.0 litre turbodiesel and, no matter where you are in the rev range; a prod of the right foot invokes serious acceleration. Once again the figures back this up with the 0-100 km/h mark coming up in just over 14 seconds now while the in-gear acceleration shows massive gains of almost 3 seconds anywhere tested.

The good news is that should you want even more from your Triton, there is a Powercooler upgrade that can be offered with the Powerplug and this sees even more urge added to this impressive newcomer.
