Mariani might sound like an Italian fashion house, yet the German tuner has been a going concern since 1985, flying under the radar with some unusual work – like this latest S8 package.

Perhaps the most handsome (and dated) of the big German luxury saloons, Audi’s Lamborghini-powered S8 gets a real urbane gangster look courtesy of Mariani’s technicians.

The Arctic white finish contrasts strikingly with a new grille treatment in black, playing the primary colours off against each other.

A new damper set drops the car’s ride height by a substantial 60mm, and rolling 19-inch two-piece, five blade alloy wheels in the arches, this S8 is hardly a subtle, Saturday morning golf appointment limousine.

Expect each road undulation and surface imperfection to test the ground clearance and chin spoiler robustness severely.

Hiding behind those garish wheels are new brake calipers (inexplicably lacquered red), which are just as well considering the S8’s Gallardo-derived 5.2l V10 is 38kW more powerful thanks to a trick Mariani exhaust system and some ECU wizardry.

Gauging by the generous size of those dual exhausts cutting out their presence in the lower rear bumper, we expect the V10's acoustics to be decidedly more Sant'Agata than Ingolstadt in key...

So, if you are after something entirely different for your Audi S8 fetish, perhaps Mariani’s 373kW S8 is the ticket – especially for those who cannot bring themselves to trade down to a RS6 and feel the stock 5.2l V10 in the S8 is a little undercooked.
