Hamann hammers out 425kW Gallardo

Superleggera waiting list too long for you? Lamborghini fans have no reason to fret, German tuner Hamann can help you out.

The bespoke Laupheim based tuner offers a full range of aerodynamic and mechanical upgrades for the desirable baby Lambo range. As befits a brand of Lamborghini's stature, all styling and aerodynamic add on bits are available in carbon-fibre.

Sporting an arresting shape with powerful, compact proportions, Hamann was obviously not going to try and radically alter the Gallardo styling. Instead, the styling upgrades are primarily utilitarian in nature, fulfilling airflow management functions, ensuring optimal stability at speed.

Aesthetic utility

Immediately noticeable to the Gallardo connoisseur is a new front spoiler, which can be ordered with an adjustable lip to optimise front down force for track days or just clear speed bumps better.

Along the flanks the side sills, lateral air intake covers and air scoops just in front of the rear wheel arches ensure high speed tracking stability as well as optimal engine and ancillary cooling.

Gallardo's stubby rear is fitted with a diffuser to ensure predictable rear-wheel bias with regards to handling breakaway, whilst a choice of three- or one-piece spoilers are available, the latter being height adjustable too.

Upping the performance ante

Hamann has not tampered with any internals of the exceptional, performance orientated 5-litre, V10 engine of the Gallardo.

Instead a specifically liberal catalytic converter and exhaust system can be fitted to up power by 21kW, whilst a further 22kW can be gained simply with a Hamann ECU remapping. In synergy these modifications push up power to a fearsome 425kW, compared to 382kW in the standard car, and 395kW in the Superleggera.

Slowing it down again

To cope with the increase in power, Hamann has custom designed brake systems on offer too. On the front axle 380mm discs are now grabbed by eight-pot callipers, whilst six-pot callipers clamp down on 360mm discs at the rear.

In all it heralds a diameter increase of 15mm at the front and 25mm at the rear discs, with the rear callipers sporting two extra pistons, compared to the standard car. Ensuring the requisite visual drama the callipers are finished in either red or yellow.

Hamann prides itself to ensure only the most striking wheel combinations grace their cars, and their range of 20-inch Edition Race and Anniversary 11 mags are shod with 235/30mm rubber up front and 305/25mm at the rear.

Rounding off the Gallardo Hamann treatment is an eleven piece carbon-fibre trim insert set for the interior - ensuring your fingerprints are left everywhere - and dramatically opening gullwing doors.
