Berlin based Avus shot to prominence recently with its WHITE POWER RS6 naming controversy, now the pendulum has swung to the other side of the spectrum.

Still fiddling with Audi products, Avus has optioned to dress Ingolstadt’s A5 range up as a contemporary Batmobile. Avus has seemingly not learnt from its WHITE POWER naming disaster though, and the A5 conversion is called the Matte Black…

Wrapping the car’s galvanised steel surfaces with a matte black foil to protect the original paint finish heralds a flush look, which blends extraordinarily  well with the A5’s proportions.

A comprehensive front and rear LED lighting package (sourced from the S5) contrasts strongly with the matte finish, whilst an aft diffuser adds an indispensably subtle element of customisation to the rear view.

A little ECU chipping, trick suspension

Dynamically the Avus Matte Black is powered by Audi’s 3.0 TDI V6, operating reprogrammed engine mapping, which raises power from 176- to 202kW, with peak rotational force increasing from 500- to 600Nm.

The Matte Black’s more aggressive stance is courtesy of a Klaus Wohlfarth V3 coil-over suspension kit, featuring adjustable compression and rebound dampening.

Wohlfarth's coil-over kit can be set-up to sharpen handling responses without being responsible for vanquishing the A5’s ride quality.

Jofiel alloy wheels are a nervously tight fit and at 21-inches should play havoc with ride quality (even with the KW adjustable suspension compensating), yet remain so desirable.

On the issue of ride quality, this is essentially rendered void by the Matte Black rolling on a set of sinfully attractive, limited edition, 21-inch alloy wheels from Jofiel.

Five-spoke in design, with exquisitely turned out twist blade spokes, these Jofiel black wheels, which leave hardly any clearance in their respectiv wheelarches, round off the Matte Black’s aesthetics perfectly.

Avus performance, German rightwing tuning villain last week, becomes Batmobile reincarnate style tend setter the next. How staid would the automotive world be without the German aftermarket tuning industry?
