Darth Vader's CL Black Series

Anderson’s Black Edition may be a nightmare to keep clean, but with 493kW on tap you won’t really mind the valet running costs.

AMG’s Black Series cars are the baddest Mercedes-Benz products around.

If Darth Vader is your hero and you believe in the dark side of the (rotational) force, an AMG Black Series is simply the business.

A shame then, that not all AMG models are available with Affalterbach's über-hooligan Black Series factory tuning package.

Mercedes-Benz’s CL for instance, is only available in 65 AMG trim – which simply won’t suffice for the performance demands of some customers.

To rectify this state of affairs, Düsseldorf-based Anderson has a new CL 65 Black Edition of offer.

Black is back (was it ever gone?)

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, AMG must feel quite smug following Anderson’s latest project.

The CL 65 Black Edition’s most obvious visual upgrade is its lacquered surfacing, finished in a satin matte black.

With composite side mirrors, window frames, door handles, a new grille (devoid of the three-pointed star) and cheeky rear spoiler Anderson’s Black Edition looks very much like the CL Black Series AMG forgot to build.

Rolling in the CL’s capacious wheel arches are huge 22-inch five-blade alloys, reflecting a high gloss black finish and shod with best in Michelin ZR rated rubber.

Power from the dark side of the force

Keeping with its Darth Vader theme, the CL 65 Black Edition gains an additional 43 units of power from the 6l bi-turbo V12.

The increase in output is courtesy of Anderson’s technicians fiddling with the engine control software, swapping out the standard air filters for less restrictive ones and attaching new exhaust plumbing to crank out 493kW, a similar number to AMG’s SL Black Series...

To ensure potential customers enjoy the V12’s added thrust with accompanying car sickness, Anderson’s trim specialists have visited a bizarre level of contrasting brown and black cowhide to the cabin.

If you have a serious Darth Vader fetish and like your high performance Mercs with V12 power and a lavish level of cabin comfort, Anderson’s Black Edition is sure to satisfy every desire you could have for a hooligan two-door coupe.
