349kW Conqueror from Hamann

2007-08-27 08:26
Hamann, the Laupheim-based German tuning specialist has a bespoke treat lined up for extreme Range Rover fans at this years Frankfurt motor show.

Using the manic Range Rover Sport as a platform, Hamann have coaxed more performance from the 4.4-litre supercharged V8 whilst adding dramatically to the visual drama of the Sport.

Dubbed the Conqueror, this is one Range Rover which does not encapsulate the usual British characteristic of restrained style.

With massive wheel arch extensions, inlet trims and a fat front apron, the Conqueror brooks no argument as to who has the meanest SUV parked next to the Polo field.

Big wheels

Obviously only the most ridiculous sized Hamann rims would suffice and buyers have a choice of five wheel designs ranging from 20- to 23-inches. Accompanying tyre sizes are either 295/30 or 315/30.

The huge 23-inch Edition Race mag, which is finished in light alloy with a black wheel spider, is a multi piece design and runs on 315/25 tyres. With the sound-system turned up one should not be too bothered with the epic levels of road noise.

Even bigger power

With tyres of these dimensions the Conqueror was always going to need a serious power hike to keep up in the performance stakes.

On the naturally aspirated 4.4-litre V8 power is boosted from 220kW and 425Nm to 238kW at 5000r/min and 450Nm at 4000 r/min, which is pretty negligible. The conversion does not alter internals, and is in reality only an electronic control unit recalibration. Concerning the 4.4-litre supercharged V8 things are a little more outlandish.

With a modified supercharger ratio, a high performance cylinder head and sports rear muffler the extra urge is monstrous. Power is upped from 287kW and 550Nm to 349kW at 5740 r/min and 610Nm at 3500 r/min.

To ensure the requisite acoustic effect, Hamann offers a four-pipe rear sports muffler with round stainless steel tailpipes of 90mm diameter.

Keeping all this performance in check is firstly a roof spoiler which allows the Conqueror to track with increased stability at speed, and upgraded front brakes of the 380mm variety.

Continuing the extreme performance theme to the interior is an eight-piece carbon-fibre interior trim set which adorns the centre console and door surrounds. Aluminum pedals combine with Hamann branded mats to ensure a bespoke ambiance.

Hamann will of course finish the Conqueror interior in a mind-boggling range of interior leather trim finishes and multimedia combinations (Playstation, DVD, TV's) at the requisite price.
