Once a year, the Italian city of Brescia becomes a haven for classic-car enthusiasts as hundreds of vintage models gather for the Mille Miglia.

The original rally (1927-1957) featured the latest racing cars. Today, the event is more about faultless navigation and precise driving.

Mercedes-Benz has a rich history at the event with Stirling Moss setting a record in 1955 in driving a 300SLR, covering 1609km/h along public roads.

Some of the most iconic and rare cars only seen in pictures and on TV descend upon the town complimented with a large crowd.

There is no shortage of competition with cars taking part and finishing in the top third is a feat on its own.

Just like the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France and the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, the Mille Miglia is a bucket list event for many motoring enthusiasts.
