When it comes to producing sports cars, few can do it as well as Ferrari. With a history as rich as this Italian automaker's, it is almost impossible to fathom the opposite.

What makes Ferrari cars incredibly special, is the fact that they are fitted with either a V8 or V12 engine - with the latter powering some of the most memorable cars to ever come out of Maranello.

Case in point is the F12 Berlinetta. Produced between 2012 and 2017, the Berlinetta churned out an impressive 544kW and 690Nm from its 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine. As is custom with any Ferrari product, engine power and performance are only part of the story, and this 2014 F12 Berlinetta has its own fable to tell.

That custom feel

When ordering a new Ferrari, customers can wait anywhere between six to 24 months for their cars to arrive. Why? Because each build receives immaculate attention to detail, and every component of each car is built specifically for it. Furthermore, owners have the privilege to customise their cars to their liking, and this model was at the receiving end of that same treatment.

The car has fully electric sports seats with carbon fibre inner sills, as well as a Ferrari telemetry system, and track cameras. Other optional extras include a front suspension lift system, anti-stone chipping protective film, and a JBL sound system with 11 ceramic-coated speakers - the top-quality system Ferrari has to offer. The car is specified with a vast list of standard features that will impress any critic.

Under the Ferrari Approved program, this F12 Berlinetta has been authenticated by Scuderia South Africa and carries a full-service history. It also passed Ferrari's 190-point check, which means a 12-month factory warranty on the car's main components comes standard. Prospective buyers can extend this warranty up to 15 years, provided it is serviced with Ferrari when needed.

The F12 Berlinetta

The F12 Berlinetta may be a sports car of note, but Scuderia South Africa says that it came to market as a grand tourer. Upfront, the 6.3-litre engine stretches under the dashboard, sending the sonorous sound of the V12 into the cabin. This, according to Ferrari, stirs the senses when the car is running at full tilt.

Power is sent to the road via Ferrari's seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. And being equipped with the F1-Trac system, the gearbox sends the most power to the rear wheel with the most traction, allowing the car to achieve its stellar performance figures. Ferrari says that this rear-wheel-drive machine will run from 0 - 100km/h in 3.1 seconds and onto a top speed of more than 340km/h. Zero to 200km/h will fly by in 8.5sec.

Inside, the two-seat cabin was designed with the occupants in mind, and every dial and control is within easy reach. On either side of the steering wheel, drivers can toggle between the various menus on each of the two screens. The right screen plays home to satellite navigation, media, radio, and other media-related functions, while the left is more technical and relays vehicle information at any given moment. The information on this screen includes tyre pressures, oil pressure, battery voltage, and track times if you should find yourself on a circuit.

This 2014 F12 Berlinetta can be viewed at the Ferrari showroom in Cape Town. It comes standard with Ferrari Genuine, which allows owners of any new or pre-owned vehicles to accessorise the look of their car through any of the official Ferrari dealerships in South Africa.
