Caught! Parking towaway cheats

TEL AVIV, Israel - Local officials in Tel Aviv have been forced to apologise after city workers were caught on camera painting a disabled parking spot around a legally parked car - and then had the vehicle towed.

Watch the video here.

A security camera across the street documented their moves, and the surveillance video then went viral after being posted on Facebook, Israeli media reported on Tuesday January 5, 2013.

ACT OF DESPERATION

The car's owner, identified as Hila Ben-Baruch, threatened to sue the city after being asked to pay a fine the equivalent of about R2400 and an additional R840 in towing costs.

Confronted with the surveillance video, the municipality cancelled the fines.

A municipal statement, quoted by the Jerusalem Post daily, said the incident was "a severe mistake and a case of incompetence the city of Tel Aviv does not accept."

It seems there was clearly nothing else happening on the roads in Tel Aviv. Do you think these officials were trying to get an extra buck or just bored on the job? Drop us a comment or Email us and we'll publish your thoughts.
