Catalunya: Marquez misses home-race pole

BARCELONA, Spain - Dani Pedrosa took pole position for the 2014 Catalonia MotoGP on Saturday (June 14) after points leader Marc Marquez crashed, ending his run of six poles in the first six races of the season.

Marquez was trying to beat Pedrosa's time when he lost control of his front wheel and slid into the gravel on Turn 1. He walked away but still managed the session's third-best time behind Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) in second.

ROSSI SECOND

Pedrosa, Marquez's Honda team mate, clocked the fastest lap of 1min40.985 at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit.

Marquez started his title defence by winning all six races so for in 2014 year to lead the standings with 150 points. Valentino Rossi is second with 97 - he will start Sunday's race fifth  behind Stefan Bradl.

2014 Catalunya Moto3 qualifying
Spain's Alex Marquez set a course record for the class on Saturday (June 14) as he rode his Honda to pole position for Sunday's 2014 Catalunya Moto3 GP with a time of 1min50.232.

The 18-year-old, younger brother of MotoGP championship leader Marc Marquez (third in MotoGP qualifying) finished his fastest lap a comfortable 0.618sec quicker than Italian KTM rider Enea Bastianini.

Spaniard Alex Rins, on a second Honda, was a further 0.062sec back to complete the front row at the Montmelo circuit.
