Car-scammers hit SA dealers

Police are investigating a scam by con-artists pretending to be second-hand car salesmen.

SAPS captain Collette Weilbach ssaid (August 2013) that five cases were being investigated by the Villieria, Pretoria Central and Sinoville police stations.

PREYING ON CAR-BUYERS

According to authorities, fraudsters pretend to be vehicle salesmen at dealerships then dupe would-be buyers into paying them cash in exchange for a discount.

Weilbach advised potential buyers to speak directly to dealerships to ensure the transaction was legal.
