CAPE TOWN - A British duo will attempt to drive from Cape Town to London in 10 days.
Philip Young and Paul Brace will set off from the Mount Nelson Hotel on February 1 2013 and travel 15000km in a 875cc Fiat Panda.
The previous world record for the trip, across two continents and through 11 countries, was 14days, 19 hours and 26 minutes.
ROAD BLOCKS, FOOD SUPPLIES AND BANDITS
Young said: "We are not stopping other than to fill up and at borders. It's truly non-stop: about 1600km every 24-hours."
To ensure they're not breaking any laws, the car has been fitted with a tracking device to ensure they did not break the speed limit.
The pair will also be eating on the go in form of self-heating food.
Young, who organises classic car rallies for the Endurance Rally Association, is experienced with driving across continents. His co-driver Paul Brace works for Eagle, Jaguar experts in Sussex, England.
The drivers hope to avoid the fate of some previous long-distance attempts such as in 1914, when attempt to drive from Cape Town to Cairo turned deadly as the driver was killed by a leopard.
The pair aim to raise about R140000 for the charity Farm Africa.
