The limited edition Club Coupe is the most powerful 997 series 911 to date.

It is also the first 2005 911 Carrera S to feature Porsche's new X51 engine upgrade kit which lifts power and torque from 265 kW and 400 Nm in the standard Carrera S to 284 kW and 415 Nm.

Porsche has not confirmed when or if the upgrade will be made available on non-Club Coupe 911s.

The X51 upgrade gives the 3.8-litre flat-six a carbon fibre air cleaner housing, a larger throttle body, revised intake, cylinder heads and exhaust manifold modifications.

There are also changes to the engine control unit, and there's a sport exhaust system.

Porsche claims a top speed of just under 300 km/h for the car, with a 0 - 100 km/h sprint time of under 5 seconds.

The Club Coupe is the most powerful normally aspirated (non-turbo) car it has offered for sale in the US - the previous best, the 2003 911 GT3, which had a featured a 3.6-litre engine that produced 283 kW and 385 Nm.

However, insiders say the next GT3, which will also get the 3.8-litre motor, will push out about 298 kW. It's due later this year.
