BMW SA boss to steer group

The supervisory board of BMW AG has announced that Dr Norbert Reithofer, 50, ex-BMW South Africa plant director and current chairman of BMW South Africa, has been appointed as chairman of the board of management.

He will take over this position from Dr Helmut Panke, 59 on September 1, 2006.

Reithofer is currently a member of the board of management of BMW AG too with responsibility for production.

BMW appointed Frank-Peter Arndt, 50, as Reithofer's successor.

Arndt is currently Head of the BMW Dingolfing plant.

Panke has been with the BMW Group for a total of 24 years. He has been a member of the board of management since 1996 and chairman of the board of management since May 2002.

He has been a member of the BMW AG board of management since 2000, and prior to that, held various offices, including those of head of the Rosslyn plant in South Africa and head of the Spartanburg plant in the USA. Reithofer joined BMW AG in 1987.
