Available with either a 3.2-litre FSI V6 petrol engine or Audi's 3.0 TDI V6, the A6 Avant is also available with quattro all-wheel drive and six-speed tiptronic transmission.
Audi says that exclusivity is the key feature of the A6 Avant and that only a limited number will be available locally.
The A6 Avant is without doubt recognisable as an Audi product and it shares Audi design cues such as the dominant trapezoidal grill. It measures 4.93m in length, 1.86m in width, and 1.46 metres in height
Limited competitors with the competitors coming from the Merc E class and the BMW 5 series touring models. Audi are looking to sell 5 ? 10 units per month.
With a list of features you expect to find on the high end cars of to day the Avant offers:
Load lugger
As far as luggage and versatility is concerned, the new A6 Avant has plenty to offer. Inside, this is emphasised both by the materials and finish of the luggage compartment and by its entirely new securing concept.
There are also two securing rails recessed into the floor of the level, 1.05 metre wide load area (through-loading width).
These are fitted with four sliding, adjustable and lockable lashing eyes which, along with the luggage net fitted as standard, can be used to secure individual items of luggage of almost any size.
With the seats folded down, the Avant offers 1 660 litres of loading area. Even with the rear seatbacks in the upright position, there is 565 litres ofl packing space.
All A6 Avant versions have bag hooks integrated into the luggage compartment trim, as well as an additional luggage net to one side.
A lockable side compartment can be supplied as an optional extra.
The load area floor can be folded up as a standard feature and can be locked in a variety of positions to divide up the load area.
This not only provides scope for stowing objects between the rear backrest and the raised floor to prevent them from sliding around, but also provides access to the lower load area, into which a large plastic tray is integrated.
Engines
The new Audi A6 Avant will be launched with a choice of two powerful V6 engines: one petrol and one TDI. Both models will only be available with quattro all wheel drive.
The 3.2 V6 FSI has a m aximum output is 188 kW at 6 500 r/min, maximum torque 330 Nm at just 3 250 r/min.
More than 90% of the engine's maximum torque is available throughout a wide speed range from 2 400-5 500 r/min.
Average fuel consumption for the multitronic of 9.7 litres per 100 km in the combined cycle.
The three-litre six-cylinder TDI engine kicks out 165 kW which is coupled with maximum torque 450 Nm. And this maximum torque cuts in at just above idling speed, starting at 1 400 r/min to give the driver supreme power and acceleration at all speeds.
Even with the torque-converter automatic transmission, this means performance on the road even many a sports car will find hard to match: acceleration to 100 km/h comes in just 7.3 seconds, top speed of the A6 3.0 TDI quattro is 243 km/h.
Specifications
In line with its premium status, the A6 Avant range is comprehensively equipped. Naturally, items such as electrically operated windows and side mirrors, dual zone climate control, servotronic power steering, leather upholstery, remote central locking and a CD based sound system are all standard.
In addition, the full Multi-Media Interface (MMI) system is included with LCD colour screen. When fitted with the optional navigation system or Bluetooth equipped car phone, the MMI system allows for unprecedented user friendliness.
The A6 Avant 3.2 FSI quattro also offers electrically adjustable front seats as standard.
There are a number of options to choose from too such as adaptive air suspension and adaptive cruise control.
The second generation radar-aided adaptive cruise control automatically maintains the right distance from the vehicle ahead.
Supplementing the optional cruise control function, this system significantly enhances driving convenience by automatically controlling the speed of the car relative to the vehicle ahead and the distance chosen.
A new feature in the latest generation of adaptive cruise control is the fact that the angle recorded by the sensor has doubled, clearly improving the detection range especially on winding country roads.
