Johannesburg - The ANC Gauteng will conduct its own investigation into the arrest of Sedibeng, near Vereeniging, mayor Mahole Simon Mofokeng.
Mofokeng was arrested on June 4 2013 for allegedly driving while intoxicated after he bumped into a car as he was leaving a hotel in Vanderbijlpark.
A police spokesman said: "He was released on Wednesday (June 5) morning [on] R1000 bail. He spent Tuesday night in police cells. The case had been postponed to September 5 2013."
ANC'S INTEGRITY COMMITTEE?
Andries Mapetla, a director in Mofokeng's office, confirmed the impact: "Yes, it is true that he was involved in a car accident, and as best as it is understood it was just a minor accident. An investigation is taking place on that. We haven't had a result as of yet.”
A statement read: "The ANC Gauteng has seen and noted all media reports on the alleged arrest of the Sedibeng executive mayor Mahole Simon Mofokeng, as a result of an alleged drunken driving accident.
"The ANC intends to conduct its own investigations and if there is any truth to the allegations will... refer the matter to the [ANC's] integrity committee to handle and deal with all its consequences."
DISGRACEFUL BEHAVIOUR
It's not the first time Mofokeng's drunken antics have been questioned. Cope spokeswoman Sikelelwa Clara Sodlulashe-Motau said Mofokeng's behaviour was disgraceful and an embarrassment to Sedibeng municipality.
Sodlulashe-Motau said: “In February 2013, he made similar news when he fell at a bar because he was allegedly drunk and he had to be assisted by those around him just to get back on his feet.
“What will the public who placed him in office think of this behaviour?”
