A call to model car enthusiasts

Interested in model cars? The 2013 South African National Luminaries Model Car Show (SANNL) in Kimberly will be the perfect venue for SA model car enthusiasts.

Wheels24 reader PETER THOMAS tells why the 2013 show shouldn't be missed:

"The SANNL Model Car Show is considered by many to be the granddaddy of automotive modelling events in South Africa. Created 16 years ago in Kimberley, this annual display of the skills of automotive model builders never fails to delight and inspire all who attend.

'GUARANTEED A GREAT TIME'

"Unlike most model events, the SANNL is not a judged competition but rather a show where class winners are chosen by means of a vote by their peers. This voting concept forms the basis of a relaxed atmosphere.

"The 2013 event takes place on the weekend of 21 & 22 September at the Horseshoe Motel in Kimberley. For more information, contact event organiser Gerhard van Vuuren here, or visit the website.

"Whether you are a fanatical model builder - or you have recently built your very first model – or you are just an interested spectator, the SANNL welcomes you! We guarantee that you will have a great time!"

Wheels24 asks why the, erm, interesting event title?

Van Vuuren said: "In the USA, they have the International Plastic Modeler's Society which gathers modellers from all over. The military modellers proved to be 'know it alls' and car builders were generally looked down on.

"We decided to start our own event to take the mickey out of the military guys, hence the Nameless National Luminaries title."
