While South Africans await the Volkswagen Golf 7 GTI TCR's imminent arrival, the next iteration based on the Golf 8 has been spotted testing at the famous Nurburgring.
In January 2020, a photograph was leaked illustrating the Golf 8 performance model line-up and listed the TCR model will have 221kW and 400Nm, an increase of 8kW over the current TCR that will be launched locally this year.
Only 300 TCR units have been earmarked for the local market, at a price of R669 000.
Back to the newest TCR and anoraks will notice from the footage that the TCR like the Golf R that was spotted testing a few weeks back do not feature the LED spot lights in a chequered flag design.
Motor1.com reports that the TCR is a more track-focused version and won't only be offered in limited numbers like the MKVII version. Power is distributed to the front wheels via a dual-clutch gearbox and it sports a slightly different front air-dam compared to the upcoming GTI.
The TCR features a bigger rear spoiler, and the exhausts feature a newly-designed piece of trim between them.
