WATCH: The Honda Amaze at a glance

The Honda Amaze has found itself in the Wheels24 garage. Launched in October 2018, the little car has redefined itself as a new standard of compact sedans.

Larger than its predecessor and sporting improved tech, Honda's Amaze sedan has quickly made its presence felt in South Africa since its launch in 2018.

The petrol engine is very refined and it delivers adequate performance, in cities though it can struggle along uphills and when a brisk pull-away is required.

It’s only when pushed beyond 3000rpm that the engine feels its most energetic and those who love driving will rev it hard but most of its target customers will probably settle for mild-mannered driving, which the Amaze was built for.

The Amaze has been tuned to deliver comfort and its refined suspension is great at absorbing bumps and undulations.

Honda has delivered a comfortable, spacious sedan that’s well suited for first-time families and since its launch has become a regular among rental and Uber fleets.

My biggest gripe is that the interior harks back the 90s; hard plastics, beige/cream coloured upholstery and minimal tech. Given its size and price point, most won't mind its throwback cabin.

A boon, however, is its Bluetooth connectivity, central locking (standard) and electronic side-mirrors.

Overall, it's composed and comfortable on the road and offers first-time families a decently-sized, practical vehicle at an affordable price-point.
