In 2019, both Hyundai and Citroën launched compact SUVs in the South African market.

For Hyundai, it was the Venue, and on Citroën's part, the C3 AirCross. For Citroën, the C3 AC's local debut coincided with the brand's relaunch into the SA market following a near three-year hiatus. While it might take the French automaker some time to rebuild any broken bridges with the South African consumer, its vehicles are fun to drive.

The C3 AirCross range consist of two models, the 'Feel' and the 'Shine', while the Venue has five models to choose from. The top-of-the-range models for both SUVs retail for R369 900, while the Venue's greater range allows for an entry-price of R274 900 versus the Feel’s R345 900.

Both vehicles are powered by three-cylinders petrol engines, but the Citroën uses a 1.2-litre engine (81kW/205Nm), whereas the Venue is fitted with a 1.0-litre unit (88kW/175Nm). The only gearbox available on the Citroën is an automatic one, but the Hyundai can be had with either a manual or automatic.
