Car enthusiasts are always keeping an eye out on vehicles that will retain value in the future, as not many vehicles are able to do so. 

The list is mostly made up of performance cars as many people aspire to experience the raw power, handling prowess or that unique engine note. 

We take a closer look at seven cars you can buy now that will tick that box. 

Mercedes-AMG C63 - The C63 has cult status as a modern-day muscle car, it's powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that produces an incredible rumble that'll frighten Mike Tyson. 

It's 375kW and 700Nm are sent to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox. I've been fortunate to drive the sedan, station wagon, and cabriolet versions of the C63 and the manner in which the V8 dominates the driving experience is unmatched. 

While its rivals employ six-cylinder engines, the AMG's V8 makes it stand head and shoulders apart in the soul
department.

Alpine A110 - Light, agile and powerful. The Alpine A110 is what a modern sports car should be, it focuses on providing the driver with as much feedback as possible. 

With rumours circulating that Renault might shut down Alpine, the value of the A110 will soar even higher. 

Suzuki Swift Sport - Cheap and cheerful is how to describe the latest Suzuki Swift Sport, a car I'd happily spend my money on. 

I'd argue that the 1.4-litre turbocharged Swift is the most fun you could have in a car bar anything illegal. 

Toyota Supra - A classic reimagined by partnering with BMW to develop the latest Supra, powered by a Bavarian-sourced 3.0-litre twin turbo straight six engine with 250kW and 500Nm. 

The two-door sports car is balanced, powerful and enthralling to drive. One of the best driver's cars on the planet and a sure-fire future classic. 

BMW M2 Competition - The smallest M-car borrows a watered down version of the 3.0-litre straight six its big brother, the M4. 

Like most M-cars the power is directed exclusively to the rear wheels and that 302kW and 550Nm makes for some superb sideways action. 

BMW i8 - The now-discontinued BMW i8 is arguably one of the most jaw-dropping experiences I've had testing cars. 

It possesses unique looks and was marketed as a supercar of the now and the future. Why? Because it's a hybrid and weighs in at 1595kg mainly because of its electric motors. 

Those motors coupled with a 1.5-litre turbo engine produce a total output of 275kW and 320Nm, the Roadster executes the from 0-100km/h dash in a claimed 4.6 seconds and has to be physically restrained at 250km/h.

Brisk, whichever you look at it. It was the first of its kind for a non-supercar maker, and well, it certainly left its mark.
