The large Sprinter van from Mercedes-Benz has been around since 1995, carrying goods and people long distances in one go.

This is barely putting a dent in the options list, as the third-generation Sprinter can be configured in more than 1700 ways.

Mercedes-Benz Accident Research regularly inspect damaged vehicles to generate insights into further development of safety technology.

The accident researchers have been collecting this important data since 2015 and they analyse whether the new safety systems were actually used in any accidents which might have take place.

The company will also speak to the people involved to understand what happened in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
