WATCH | Going retro with the Fiat 124 Spider

We're used to seeing roadsters like the Mazda MX-5 and Toyota 86 on our roads but Fiat has one of its own with the 124 Spider.

It first rolled off the production line in 1966 when it was known as the 124 Sport Spider, designed by Pininfarina. It became a hit amongst drivers wanting to feel the wind in their hair.

Carrying the DNA

The current model has a few things in common with its older sibling such as the rear-wheel-drive configuration and also retaining the 1.4-litre engine. The older Spider had a power figure of 66kW while the later version produces 103kW.

The Spider and Mazda MX-5 have something else in common too - they both come off the same assembly line in Hiroshima.
