• Take a closer look at the new Ferrari Roma.

• The 456kW two+two is based on the Portifino Convertible.

• It offers achingly beautiful looks, a flat-plane crank V8 and a 320km/h top speed.

An new Ferrari is always a big occasion. Recently the world's most valuable company hosted journalists to drive its new Roma grand tourer. The new two+two is based on the Portifino and was penned by Flavio Manzoni at the company's styling centre.

It uses 70% new components compared to the Portifino Convertible and is powered by a 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine mounted in the front with 456kW and 761Nm. The motor is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the same 'box in the SF90 Stradale.

Ferrari says the twin-clutch gearbox weighs six kilograms less than the seven-speed item used in the Portifino and offers quicker and smoother shifts.

Personally, I think the Roma is one of the best-looking Ferraris yet. It looks absolutely gorgeous, and its clean lines and slightly aggressive stance can make you fall in love with it instantly.

Inside, it's a genuine two+two with plush leather seats of the highest quality, and a 40cm instrument console and a smaller 21cm vertical display and a smaller display for passengers as well.

The Roma and the Portifino might share the same wheelbase, but the fixed-roof example is significantly lower and has a wider body and axles. It's also gone under a strict diet to shave off 100kg compared to the drop-top model.

The Roma also benefits from the brand's torque-vectoring e-differential as standard. In addition the Side Slip Control 6.0 and Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer electronic torque vectoring systems are also available as standard fitment.

The five driver modes are selected via the manettino switch and it even offers a race mode. Duh, why wouldn't it!?

Watch the video below as Ferrari unveils its new Roma model, the latest four-seat GT car from the Italian manufacturer. It's powered by a 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine which takes it to a top speed of 320km/h.

Rivals include the Porsche 911, Audi R8, Mercedes-AMG GT and the latest Aston Martin Vantage. Practically, the Roma's boot has space of 272 litres if you opt for the Ferrari leather luggage set, that increases to 345 litres when the rear seats are folded.
