• Bugatti has posted teasers on its Instagram account over the past several weeks.
• The French carmaker will debut its latest model on 28 October.
• The Bolide is a track-focused hyper sports car, according to the company.
Bugatti unveiled a 1360kW track-only hyper sports car called the Bolide. The French company, recently bought by Rimac, has never produced a car specifically for track use, until now.
The Bolide is an 'experimental study' hypercar that's powered by a tweaked version of the famous W16 engine first seen in the Veyron in 2008.
It uses the all-wheel-drive system from the Chiron and a lightweight chassis to make sure it's track-focused.
Other weight saving options include ceramic brakes and magnesium wheels.
Bugatti says the Bolide "is the most extreme, uncompromising, fastest and lightest vehicle concept" in the company's history.
"We asked ourselves how we could realize the mighty W-16 engine as a technical symbol of the brand in its purest form—with solely four wheels, engine, gearbox, steering wheel and, as the only luxury, two seats," Bugatti President Stephan Winkelmann said.
"Important aspects of our considerations were fine-tuning our iconic powertrain without any limitations as regards the weight-to-power ratio," the former Audi and Lamborghini boss said.
The numbers are truly staggering. It boasts a power to weight-to-power ratio of 0.67 kilograms per kW. This is made possible by the combination of the W16 engine with 1360kW and a vehicle weight of 1240 kilograms.
The power is courtesy of four new turbos slapped onto the W16 engine.
The claimed top speed is over 500km/h and it will complete a full lap of the Le Mans circuit in France in 3 minutes 07.1, faster than any car in history.
The company also says it will take 5 minutes 23.1 to lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife in Germany, the only car to beat that is Porsche's 919 Evo which completed the lap in 5 minutes 17 seconds.
