Cape Town – Volkswagen’s fourth-generation Caddy workhorse has arrived in South Africa.
The new Caddy is redesigned throughout and boasts new technology as well as enhanced convenience and safety features.
The new Caddy is available in four derivatives:
Panel Van and Crew Bus – for commercial use
Trendline and Alltrack - replaces the Cross Caddy and are aimed at private customers.
Short or long (Maxi) wheelbase
The Panel Van, Crew Bus and Trendline can be ordered in either short or long (Maxi) wheelbase. In the Panel Van derivative, the Maxi version adds 469mm to the short wheelbase version’s 1.7m load compartment and has a load capacity of 4.2m3.
The fourth-generation Caddy is built at Volkswagen’s production facility in Poznan, Poland.

Three engine options
The fourth-generation Caddy is available with three engine options; 1.6-litre MPI (81kW) and two 2.0 TDI engines with power outputs of 81kW and 103kW respectively. Engines with 81kW outputs are paired with a five-speed manual and the 103kW variant is mated to a six-speed DSG.
1.6-litre petrol - 81kW/155Nm
The 1.6-litre is the only petrol engine in the range and is available for the Panel Van and Crew Bus derivatives. Power output has been increased from 75kW in the previous model to 81kW (up by 6kW). This four-cylinder normally aspirated engine has a maximum torque figure of 155Nm.
Fuel consumption is rated at a claimed 7.3 litres/ 100km.
2.0 TDI - 81kW/250Nm
The 2.0 TDI 81kW/250Nm is carried over from the previous model. Fuel consumption is 5.7 litres/100km (5.8 l/100km for Maxi).
2.0 TDI - 103kW/320Nm
The powerful 103kW/320Nm 2.0 TDI is only available with six-speed DSG transmission. Fuel consumption is 6.3 litres l/100km.

Improved safety
All versions are equipped with Volkswagen’s auto Post-Collision Braking system – it reduces the risk or severity of a secondary collision by controlling the speed and path of the vehicle after the first impact.
The new Caddy can be fitted with optional Park Distance Control (with reversion camera) and Driver Alert (fatigue retection) systems.
Inside, the Caddy has a redesigned dashboard and centre console and infotainment system.
The Crew Bus is equipped with Composition Audio radio with LCD screen as standard. Rhe Trendline is fitted with Composition Colour radio touchscreen system as standard. Customer are able to upgrade to an even higher specification Composition Media system with USB, AUX connectivity and four-speakers.
Standard kit and safety features
Standard kit for thePanel Van and Crew Bus includes driver and front passenger airbags, ABS, ESP, Auto Post-Collision Braking system, seatbelt reminder, fatigue detection (only standard in Maxi-guise with DSG) and hill assist (standard in Maxi with DSG).
Trendline derivatives gain 16” alloys, body-coloured elements (bumpers, door handles and side-mirrors), heatable rear window, power and heatable side-mirrors, aircon, power windows, leather steering wheel, height-adjustable front seats, multi-function display, black roof rails, under-seat storage, sun visors (with vanity mirror)s, fog and daytime running lights.
The Caddy Alltrack is fitted with 17” alloys, height-adjustable front seat, cloth upholstery, leather steering wheel, rain sensors, touchscreen, silver side-mirrors, auto headlights, dark-coloured tail lights, driver and front passenger lumbar support, cruise control and silver roof rails.
Optional features for the Panel Van and Crew Bus include 15” and 16” alloys, park distance control (rear), LCD screen (Panel Van only), auto aircon, tow-hitch, power windows and side- mirrors, seven-seater package (Crew Bus only), comfort package (cruise control, foglights and multi-function display), bi-xenons and light package (follow-me-home lights, light and rain sensor with auto dimming rear-view mirror).
Trendline and Alltrack derivatives can be customised with optional kit; 16” alloys wheels (Trendline only), park distance control (front and rear) with reversing camera, bi-xenons and blacked-out tail lights.

Service and Warranty
The new Caddy Panel Van and Crew Bus (except for the 1.6 with 81kW – service plan optional) is sold with a two- year/unlimited km warranty and a three-year/60 000kmservice plan.
The new Caddy Trendline (including Alltrack) is sold with a three-year/120 000km warranty and a three-year/60 000km service plan.
All models sold with a 12-year anti-corrosion warranty. Service intervals are 15 000km.
