Video review: New Volkswagen Tiguan 1.4TSI tested

Cape Town - The compact SUV market place is becoming ever popular. With the likes of all major automakers offering their unique take on the perfect compact SUV, I decided to take the new Volkswagen Tiguan 1.4TSI for a drive and discover what it has to offer.

In my opinion, the new Tiguan offers some of the best looks in the compact SUV market. With its sharp lines and a now bolder, broader and more pronounced design than ever previously available. The striking exterior styling gets continued onto the inside of the Tiguan, which offers an elegant, minimalistic cabin and features soft-touch, high quality materials and a multimedia system which is easy to navigate.

Media is delivered through either a 6.5" or 8" display and features sources such as USB, streaming, auxiliary as well as most major formats.

The Tiguan is available with a variety engines ranging from the 1.4TSI with 92 kW to the 2.0TSI with 162 kW and is also offered with VW’s simply excellent DSG (dual-clutch automated) transmission. During my test I drove the 1.4TSI with the DSG gearbox. The vehicle managed to average a combined average of between 8 and 9-litres/100km and provided more than ample power throughout the rev range.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is a premium product and provides a spacious, comfortable and incredibly stylish offer to the compact SUV market. It competes with the likes of the BMW X1 and Mazda CX-5 but to name a few of its closest competitors and represents an overall solid compact family vehicle.
