Under the Skin
According to Toyota: "Peering underneath the skin of the new Avanza, you will find that the suspension geometry and design have been tweaked to provide improved handling and stability, steering feel as well as enhanced ride comfort. These design changes also deliver a reduction in cabin noise, helping to lower NVH levels whilst travelling."
Powering the Avanza are two new engines; 1.3 and 1.5 litre petrol (borrowed from the Etios hatchback). The 1.3 is capable of 70kW/121Nm with the 1.5 litre delivering 77kW/137Nm. Buyers can choose five-speed manual or five-speed auto for the 1.5 litre, which drive the rear wheels.
Fuel consumption is improved to 6.1 l/100km for the 1.3 litre and a 6.3 l/100km for the 1.5 litre manual. The auto derivative is rated at 6.7 l/100km.
