Earlier in January, the German automaker revealed that two 'distinctively sporty and high specification models' would be added to its mid-engine sports car range: the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 and the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0.
The siblings are powered by the same 4.0-litre, six-cylinder boxer engine that is used in the 718 Spyder and the 718 Cayman GT4, and mated to the manual six-speed transmission and sports exhaust system, power outputs for both models are now 294kW.
Porsche SA says both models are available to order now with the first units arriving locally from May 2020.
The 3-year base pricing is as follows:
Boxster - R1 175 000
Cayman - R1 164 000
The zero to 100km/h sprint is claimed to take 4.5 seconds and they have a top speed of 293km/h. The automaker says thanks to the standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) sports suspension, as well as a 20mm lower ride height and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with mechanical limited slip rear differential, it gives the new generation of GTS models incredible balance between dynamic handling and everyday comfort.

The Sport Chrono package is standard, and there are also black contrasting design elements, and a dark Alcantara interior.
Just like the 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4, the 4.0-litre engine in the new models is characterised by its efficiency trump card. This is possible via the adaptive cylinder control that alternately switches off one of the two cylinder banks at low loads, direct fuel injection with piezo injectors, and a variable intake system.
The GTS engine is known for its power reserves and immediate response. The automaker says its revs to 7800rpm and thanks to the standard sports exhaust system with dynamic damper control, delivers sonorous enjoyment via the six-cylinder boxer engine sound.
The 718 GTS 4.0 models also feature twin tailpipe sports exhaust systems from the 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4, which due to its saddle-type design, creates space for the contrasting black rear lower section.

Improved dynamics
Optionally, the PASM sports suspension lowers the body by just 10mm but it makes a huge difference in the vehicle's stance, and driving dynamics. Other standard goods includes performance-orientated components such as Porsche Stability Management (PSM) with selectable PSM Sport mode, the Sport Chrono package including the Porsche Active Drivetrain Mounts (PADM) and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with mechanical limited slip rear differential.
There are 20-inch light-alloy wheels in Satin-Gloss Black, high-performance tyres (235/35 ZR 20 at the front and 265/35 ZR 20 at the rear, which surround the brake system with cross-drilled discs and red callipers. Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) are optional.
Dark contrasting details reflect the particularly sporty status of the GTS cars. They have been applied to the spoiler lip, air intake of the Sport Design front apron, the front fog light lenses, the rear light lenses and the redesigned lower rear bumper.
Inside, dark Alcantara has been used for the centre panels of the standard Sport Seats Plus, as well as the steering wheel rim, centre console, gear lever and armrests on both doors.

Additional colours
In the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0, it also covers the A-pillars and the roof lining. The optional GTS interior package offers the addition of another colour with the choice between Carmine Red or Chalk which accentuate the rev counter, seat belts, all decorative seams including the embroidered GTS emblem in the headrests and the Porsche lettering on the floor mats with black borders. The trim elements as well as the centre console trim are made of carbon, says the automaker.
It comes with the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) which features a high-resolution seven-inch touchscreen, and the Sport Chrono package along with the options of either a BOSE or Burmester High-End Surround Sound System.

The consumption and CO2 emission values were calculated according to the new Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP). The NEDC values derived from this must continue to be specified for the time being. These values cannot be compared with the values calculated on the basis of the previously used NEDC test.
