The latest compact sedan entry has been unveiled, Audi's new four-door A3 will arrive, as scheduled, in the second quarter of 2021.

Engine options in Europe see two petrol and one diesel (two 1.5-litre TFSI units and one 2.0-litre TDI) offered at launch with a six-speed manual offered on the 35 TFSI model as standard. A seven-speed dual-clutch is also available.

Arrives in SA next year

The '35' model is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with 110kW, Audi says this engine combines cylinder-on-demand efficiency with a 48-volt mild hybrid system capable of recovering energy during deceleration, supporting the engine with up to 50Nm of additional torque.

The 1.0-litre turbocharged engine produces 80kW while the TDI unit has 110kW and also works in conjunction with a seven-speed S tronic.

Inside, you'll find a new compact gear shifter with its much-reduced dimensions draw the eye initially until ignition brings to life the central 25cm MMI touchscreen and the 26cm fully digital cockpit display in the binnacle, both of which are subtly integrated using a black panel design.

The touchscreen has been inclined slightly towards the driver, displays all the infotainment options including media, navigation and internet-based Audi connect functions and includes handwriting detection.

The new car is now 4cm longer at 4.50 metres in length, while its wheelbase remains unchanged compared to its predecessor.

It's also now wider by 2cm and 1cm taller, Audi says this has helped to expand elbow room and has yielded an increase in headroom of 2 centimetres in the front, helped by moving the driver’s seat slightly.

It boasts a 425-litre boot and has a drag-coefficient value of 0.25, an improvement of 0.04 Cd points over the original car.
