accreditation

Scuderia South Africa, the official Ferrari dealer in the country, revealed its new F8 Spider at its showroom in Bryanston, Johannesburg.

The F8 Spider, which replaces the 488 Spider, is powered by the automaker’s 3.9-litre V8 engine and produces 530kW and 770Nm. Maximum power is available at a roof-raising 8000rpm, while maximum torque is available at 3250rpm.

Scuderia SA CEO, Mervyn Eagles, comments: “We opted to launch the revolutionary F8 Spider in conjunction with the completion of our new corporate identity facelift of our flagship showroom in Bryanston. Both the F8 Spider and the newly renovated facilities are set to pioneer the next generation of the customer experience in our market.”

The F8 Spider (as well as the F8 Tributo), says Ferrari SA, is the latest model in a bloodline that began in 1977 with the 308 GTS. In the 43 years since, numerous models occupied the space, including the F430 (and Spider), 458 Italia (and 458 Spider), 488 Spider and 488 GTB, and the 488 Pista and 488 Pista Spider.

Award-winning engine

The F8 Spider’s engine, says Ferrari, is a development of the engine that’s won the International Engine of the Year award for four consecutive years between 2016 and 2019. In addition, it was also selected as the best engine of the last two decades.

The engine, a turbocharged 3.9-litre V8 unit, sends its power to the rear-wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox that’s been derived from the Ferrari Formula 1 team. Weighing as little as 1400kg, the F8 Spider goes from 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds, and from 0-200km/h in 8.2sec. Top speed is 340km/h.

Ferrari says the F8 Spider’s roof needs only 14sec to open or close and can be operated at speeds of up to 45km/h.

The Ferrari F8 Spider retails from R6 103 400. The first customers will receive their orders in the final quarter of 2020.
