Only 300 Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR models will make their way to South Africa in the first quarter of 2020, this was confirmed after the 213kW front-wheel drive hatchback was unveiled at the South African Festival of Motoring.
Pricing for the special-edition model is considered to be below R700 000. The TCR is likely to be the final hurrah for the Golf 7 GTi, the EA888 engine produces 213kW and 370Nm, 44kW and 20Nm than the normal model.
The GTI TCR was derived from the racing car of the same name – the two-time overall winner of the international TCR racing series.
The TCR benefits from a black front splitter, black 18-inch wheels, a roof spoiler and black side mirrors. There are also TCR decals on the rear doors.
VW claims a 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.6 seconds, and says its the fastest Golf GTi ever. Specifications of the local model as well as pricing will be announced towards the latter part of the year.
