SEE: These are SA's most popular car and bakkie brands of 2019 (so far)

With the second half of 2019 well underway, we reflect on which manufacturers sold the most cars in South Africa.

It should come as no shock but Toyota top the best-sellers list so far this year, with its Hilux bakkie leading the charge. Toyota solidified itself as the top selling automaker so far in 2019 with 63 919 units.

That huge figure includes all vehicles Toyota sells locally.

VW still a favourite

Though the Volkswagen Polo and Polo Vivo were the two passengers who found the most favour over 2019's first half, Volkswagen had to settle for second place behind the Japanese giant. VW managed to sell 41 129 units so far this year ahead Nissan's 25 707.

Ford slots in in fourth place with 24 777 ahead of Hyundai which impressively takes fifth with 16 234 units.

Renault (11 870) and Isuzu (10 217) are the last two automakers to surpass 10 000 sales, with Mercedes-Benz narrowly missing out with 9663 units. BMW is ninth (7774), and Kia completes the top ten with 6911 sold.
