• Several new models launched locally during August. 

• Carmakers also announced future models for local introduction. 

• Mercedes-AMG launched its new A45 S, CLA 45 S and 35 AMG range.


August was busy for new model car launches and additional derivatives to existing ranges. 

Mercedes-Benz had an incredibly busy month, launching four new performance cars and an addition to its V-Class range. 

The world's most potent production hatchback is now available in South Africa. Mercedes-AMG's A45 S and CLA 45 S utilise a two-litre turbocharged engine with 310kW and 500Nm.

Mercedes-AMG took the wraps off its new entry-level AMG A 35 and CLA 35 models. And lastly, first introduced locally in 2015 the Mercedes-Benz V-Class has stood head and shoulders above competitors in the luxury multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment. Now the carmaker has a new V300d model to the range.

Ford's focus is on its Ranger and Everest models, with a new Thunder derivative that sits between the Wiltrak and Raptor in the line-up. At the same time its Everest SUV benefits from a new XLT 4x4 model powered a single turbodiesel engine and mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. There's also a new 1.5 Ambiente model available in auto.

Porsche's new Panamera will make its way to South Africa in early 2021 headlined by a Turbo S model that delivers 463kW and 820Nm from its bi-turbo four.0-litre V8 engine. The company claims a 0-100km/h sprint time of 3.1 seconds, and a top speed of 315km/h. 

Volkswagen South Africa's commercial vehicles announced its T-Series range had been refreshed with a facelift that will now be called the T6.1. The range will be available from January 2021 and includes the Panel Van, Pick Up, Crew Bus, Kombi, Caravelle, and California. Pricing starts from R412 800. 

More cars headed Mzansi's way in early 2021 are the Range Rover Evoque Autobiography and Discovery Sport Black. The Discovery Sport Black brings a sporting derivative to the line-up. Powered by a P290 turbocharged petrol engine producing 213kW. The Evoque Autobiography is the new flagship of the range ,and there are also infotainment and tech upgrades offered on both models.

Ferrari's new Roma, a 2+2 grand tourer, made its local debut via digital streaming. It is powered by a 3.9-litre turbocharged engine with 456kW and 760Nm. It's priced from R4 972 000. 

Finally, French carmaker Renault introduces its new TechRoad model to Sandero range. The TechRoad is the new top offering in the four-model range, slotting in at R243 900. 

The automaker announced its popular Duster has also received the TechRoad treatment. The Techroad model slots in above the entry-level Expression and is only available in 4x2 configuration. A manual version retails for R316 900 and an automatic version for R350 900. 

Power comes from 1.5-litre turbodiesel engine in two versions. In the 4x2 version with a manual gearbox, the engine has outputs of 66kW and 210Nm while the 4x2 EDC produces 80kW and 250Nm.
