The 2020 South African Car of the Year (COTY) competition has run its course, and the Jaguar I-Pace came out on top as the overall winner.

The I-Pace scored impressively in most categories to walk away with the sought-after title - the first time in Jaguar South Africa's history.

A big favourite

Wheels24 editor and one of the 26 2020 COTY jurors, Janine Van der Post, says: "I can't say I am too surprised that the Jaguar I-Pace took the crown. It was a big favourite among the jury members during the testing days earlier in March.

"It's an incredible car, and even more difficult to fault. In terms of its performance and technology, it's a well-deserved winner based on international standards."

For this year's competition, the finalists competed for bragging rights in seven categories. Ranging from Urban to sport and performance, and family to lifestyle, this year's competition saw healthy rivalries between a strong contingency from South Africa's new-car pool.

Following two days of evaluation and scoring, the South African Guild of Motor Journalists and COTY jurors were left satisfied with the judging process.
