Earlier this year Audi South Africa held its business update via a live stream where the head of brand, Trevor Hill, outlined the company's path for 2020.

One of Ingolstadt's new models to arrive on local shores is the A6. The mid-sized sedan that takes on the usual rivals from BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

The A6 range is available with three engines: the 40 TDI model is powered by a 2.0 turbodiesel engine with 140kW and 400Nm; followed by the 45 TDI  which employs a 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel motor with 183kW and 600Nm.

The flagship of the range for now is the S6 which uses the brand's familiar 2.9-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine with 331kW and 600Nm. The same motor that powers the RS4 Avant, a Wheels24 favourite.

The S6's engine links up with 48-volt mild-hybrid system that includes an electric-powered compressor to reduce any lag from the turbocharger. It fills in the power gap and has the ability to coast for up to 40 seconds between 55km/h and 160km/h, and engages stop-start from 22km/h.

As with all fast Audis, power is sent to all four wheels this time via an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

Inside, the new model has the latest infotainment system with two large touchscreen displays, as seen on the A7 Sportback and Q8 models.

The top display measures in at 25.6cm screen and the lower example is 21cm wide and houses the climate control, convenience and vehicle functions as well as for text input.

Audi's MMI navigation plus is standard on the A6 range and also includes the virtual cockpit in front of the driver with a high-resolution display of 31cm.

And that brings us onto a cool feature we have in store for our readers. If you'd like to get a front seat taste of what the S6 is all about and would like to ask Wheels24 any questions about the performance sedan...

We'll be live on Instagram on Thursday morning, so be sure to check it out.
