Renault South Africa expanded its local Sandero range with a new TechRoad model.
The TechRoad is the new top offering in the four-model range, slotting in at R243 900. The TechRoad offers buyers more value, says Renault, with bespoke design features and Smartphone Mirroring with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
To date, Renault has sold more than 64 000 Sanderos in South Africa. The Stepway models account for more 30 500 of these units. The Sandero is a favourite thanks to its high ground clearance and elevated driving position, 292L boot space, and raft of safety features.
Renault says the TechRoad builds on the design traits that made the Sandero such a hit in SA, but adds several features that give it more of an SUV look and feel. The exterior of the Stepway is distinguished through its bespoke design and badging with 16-inch two-tone Flex wheel covers with blue centre caps, and gloss black door mirrors with distinctive design decals on B-Pillars and lower sections of the doors.
Inside, users are treated to cruise control and satellite navigation - both features that are standard in the standard Sandero range and not commonly found in rivals. The specification list also includes side airbags, all-round electric windows, leather steering wheel and gear knob, and rear park assist.
Leather seats are an optional extra at R10 088, as well as Metallic paint at R2522.

Under the bonnet
The entire Sandero line-up is powered by a 66kW 900cc petrol engine. The engine's build is inspired by Renault's Formula 1 involvement and is said to consume as little as 5.2-litres/100km.
The three-cylinder engine produces 135Nm from a lowly 1650rpm and sends power to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.
The Sandero and New Stepway Techroad come with Renault's five-year / 150 000km warranty, together with a standard two-year / 30 000km service plan. Services are at 15 000km intervals.
