The new Suzuki Swift Sport is now available in South Africa with a turbocharged engine for the first time.
The new model takes its place at the top of the Swift range and introduces forced induction and direct injection for increased, and more immediate, power says the automaker.
Kerb weight is 970kg, 90kg lighter than its predecessor and the 1.4 Boosterjet engine produces 103kW which translates into over 100 kilowatt/tonne.
There are two models to choose from, the six-speed manual version costs R315 900 and the six-speed (torque converter) automatic is R335 900.

The new car can be told apart from the normal range by its redesigned nose featuring a bigger honeycomb-patterned grille and space lower down for fog lights.
There are LED lights in the front and a rear roof spoiler. The Swift sports 16-inch wheels and even has carbon fibre-patterned side underspoilers flow from the front splitter.
The twin-tailpipes dominate the rear of the hatchback. Suzuki says the new Swift Sport is 10% more aerodynamic than its predecessor thanks to the redesigned roof spoiler, new flat covers under the engine and main floor and new, larger front strakes, boosts the new Swift Sport’s aerodynamic efficiency by 10% over its predecessor.

There are seven bespoke colours to choose from: Burning Red, Speedy Blue, Pure White, Super Black, Premium Silver, Mineral Grey and the popular Champion Yellow.

Weighs less
Engineers shaved more than 10% off its body weight off the new car by focusing on its doors, body construction, alloy wheels, engine, seats and interior fittings.

An interior fit for a Swift Sport
The interior features subtle sporty overtones including stainless steel sport pedals and special semibucket seats, while niceties such as fully automatic climate control, speed-sensitive power steering, electrically foldable rear-view mirrors and all-round electric windows are standard.
The model also features the firm's new 17cm touchscreen with accessibility to Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a reverse camera, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, steering mounted controls and cruise control.
The Swift Sport will be sold with a four-year or 60 000km service plan and a five-year or 200 000km vehicle warranty.
