New Suzuki Swift Sport lands in SA

The new Suzuki Swift Sport is now available in South Africa with a turbocharged engine for the first time.

The new model takes its place at the top of the Swift range and introduces forced induction and direct injection for increased, and more immediate, power says the automaker.

Kerb weight is 970kg, 90kg lighter than its predecessor and the 1.4 Boosterjet engine produces 103kW which translates into over 100 kilowatt/tonne.

There are two models to choose from, the six-speed manual version costs R315 900 and the six-speed (torque converter) automatic is R335 900.

Design

The new car can be told apart from the normal range by its redesigned nose featuring a bigger honeycomb-patterned grille and space lower down for fog lights.

There are LED lights in the front and a rear roof spoiler. The Swift sports 16-inch wheels and even has carbon fibre-patterned side underspoilers flow from the front splitter.

The twin-tailpipes dominate the rear of the hatchback. Suzuki says the new Swift Sport is 10% more aerodynamic than its predecessor thanks to the redesigned roof spoiler, new flat covers under the engine and main floor and new, larger front strakes, boosts the new Swift Sport’s aerodynamic efficiency by 10% over its predecessor.
