New in SA: Jaguar reveals pricing and specification for its heavily revised F-Type

accreditation

Almost without notice, the new Jaguar F-Type has been listed on the automaker's local website.

The car, the first significant update to the model that arrived in 2014, sees changes to both the exterior and interior. The engine line-up remains unchanged and still consists of four-, six-, and eight-cylinder configurations.

As before, both coupé and convertible body types are on offer, as well as rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive setups. Across the range, an eight-speed automatic transmission will do transfer duties between the engine and tyres.

Alan Volkaerts, vehicle line director, Jaguar F-Type, said: "The new F-Type is the definitive Jaguar sports car and continues to set the benchmark for design purity, driver engagement and reward, and a truly visceral driving experience."

Engines explained

As mentioned, the F-Type will continue with the range of engines that were previously available, with little to no modifications.

The turbocharged 2.0-litre engine will again offer an entry-level option to the range. While not as powerful as the 2.0-litres from BMW and Mercedes-Benz, for example, the 221kW/400Nm it produces still offers adequate performance. It can propel the F-Type from 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds and onto a 250km/h top speed. This engine, codenamed P300, is only available in rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration.

Next is the P380 engine. This 3.0-litre V6 is mated to either an RWD or all-wheel-drive (AWD) drivetrain. It develops 280kW and 460Nm and allows the sports car to reach a top speed of 275km/h. However, the RWD version has a marginally quicker 0-100km/h time than the AWD variant: 4.9sec vs. 5.1sec.

The P575 is the big daddy in the range. The name represents the 423kW the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 produces. Available in AWD guise only, this car can run from 0-100km/h in 3.7sec and onto a claimed top speed of 300km/h. Torque is a monumental 700Nm.

Interestingly, each engine's name is representative of the amount of horsepower it develops.

Standard features

The standard features on the F-Type are largely indifferent across the range, but prospected buyers will be encouraged to opt for a few optional extras.

Taking the P300 as an example, buyers of the new F-Type can expect, as standard, an exhaust button that will deepen the cat's exhaust note, LED headlights, sports seats that are decked in leather and suede, six-way electric front seats, an interactive driver display dashboard, a Meridian sound system, and metal treadplates with R-Dynamic branding.

The R-Dynamic body kit is also standard.

The V6 and V8 models will share some of these features but will be endowed with their specific list of features. As an example, the V6 and V8 feature 12-way electric memory front seats as standard.

An F-Type First Edition model is available on both the coupé and convertible. These units will be available for one year only from when sales are to resume.
