New 7-seater Volkswagen Tiguan to be shown in Detroit

Wolfsburg – Ever since the second-generation Volkswagen was launched in late August 2016, we've lauded it for its great styling, comfortable ride and excellent perceived build quality.

However, Wolfsburg's latest SUV can seat the same number of occupants as its Golf sibling, well now Volkswagen have decided to change that by adding the new Tiguan Allspace in 2017.

The lengthened version of the best-seller will celebrate its world premiere at the beginning of January at the North American International Auto Show which runs from the 8 to 22 January 2017.

Is it coming to South Africa?

Beginning in the early part of the northern hemisphere summer, the Tiguan – with up to seven seats – will be launched successively in North America, China and Europe.

VW South Africa says there are no plans to introduce the Allspace.

The European version of the lengthened Tiguan will begiven the added designation “Allspace”, while the models for North America and China will simply be called "Tiguan".

More: The new Tiguan is the SUV Volkswagen desperately needs

As the name suggests, the new long version of the Tiguan boasts more room inside, and a longer wheelbase which has been increased by 11cm.

Volkswagen says both aspects ensure greater flexibility in the interior.
