More supercar Competition: BMW's ultimate M5 coming to SA

Munich - The BMW M Division has developed an exclusive edition of the world’s most successful high-performance business sedan, setting yet another highlight in the current BMW M5 model range.

Power output has increased to 441kW and torque to 700Nm from its 4.4-litre, high-revving V8 engine featuring TwinPower Turbo technology.

Only 200 built worldwide

The "Competition Edition", like all M5's, uses an M dual-clutch transmission and completes the 0-100km/h sprint in 3.9 seconds.

This model is ultra-exclusive with production limited to 200. South Africa will only receive six units, available from November 2016.

Prices will start at R1 964 500. 


The Competition Package includes, inter alias, a lowering of the vehicle by 10mm and a firmer setup of spring and damper systems and stabilizers.

In conjunction with this modified setup, the specific control setting for the standard Active M differential. 

Special bits and pieces

Further, the steering system with an M specific Servotronic function comes with a more direct control map, providing the driver with more precise response and further enhancing the car’s agility in bends.

In addition, the M Dynamic Mode of the stability control system DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) has been further aligned to sporty handling characteristics. Carbon-ceramic brakes are an option.

BMW will only use two hues: Carbon Black metallic and Mineral White metallic. Both designated with 100 models. 

Only the Mineral White metallic will be available in South Africa.

The M5 uses 20", forged and polished, double-spoke M light alloy wheels in a Jet Black finish and with mixed tyres (265/35 ZR20 at the front, 295/30 ZR20 at the rear).

Expect M Performance parts such as the rear diffuser, the gurney on the boot lid and the mirror caps all in carbon. 

The interior has been festooned with carbon interior trim strips bearing the logo "M5 Competition 1/200". 

Other equipment highlights include the 1200 watt Bang & Olufsen sound system, BMW Head-Up Display, Comfort Access, Lane Departure Warning or the optional BMW Driving Assistant, heated seats at the front or the through-loading system.
