Zwartkops - Mercedes launched a flurry of new models in July. In addition to the all-new Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe, the automaker showed off tweaked versions of its SLC and SL.
The SL range comprises the SL 400 with its V6 engine producing 270kW/500Nm (25kW/20Nm) and monstrous SL 500 powered by a 335kW V8. Additional variants are the 63 and 65 but more on those derivatives later in the article.
Classic styling
As standard the power transfer is handled by the new 9G-TRONIC nine-speed auto.
The Dynamic select button alters the vehicle characteristics, as the system modifies the setup of the engine, transmission, suspension and steering input.
The electronically-operated roof can now be operated at up to 40km/h. For those tech-savvy buyers, Apple Carplay is now available for the SL 400 and 500.
Additional variants include the two Mercedes-AMG models in the guise of the SL 63 and SL 65, the latter with a V12 engine.
The SL 63 uses a 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine to generate an output of 430kW/900Nm. The SL 65 is powered by a 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine rated at 463kW and a mammoth 1000Nm of peak torque.
The new SL features a revised front end: the standard, unique diamond radiator grille extends downwards. Two power domes accentuate the long, drawn-out bonnet. The SL is fitted with new standard-fit LED Intelligent Light System.
