Mercedes-Benz's new C63 AMG Coupé is now available in South Africa. And it is a brute!

Cape Town -  The smallest sedan in the Mercedes-Benz line-up, the CLA, has undergone a facelift.

In terms of design, the refreshed sedan gains new bumpers, a diamond radiator grille in black as standard and new wheels.

Inside it benefits from new seat covers and trim, as well as chromed controls.

New power

There's a new addition to the range in the form of the CLA 200d. It's powered by a 2.1-litre diesel capable of 100kW/300Nm and is available with a six-speed manual as standard.

Mercedes says its 200d has a claimed fuel consumption model uses just 4.4-litres/100km.

The performance model in the range: Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 4MATIC Coupe now features even more dynamic styling and a further upgraded interior. With a peak performance of 280kW/475Nm.

Diamond grille

The sporty proportions and powerful, dynamic design language, characterised by sensuously rounded contours, makes the CLA quite unmistakable.

All models now feature a diamond radiator grille in black as standard, plus a new front bumper with a silver, black or chrome trim strip.

The rear bumper is optionally available with a panel incorporating a trim strip in chromed or black (Night package) between the tailpipes. The tailpipe trim panels are now integrated flush into the bumper.

The range of available wheels has been expanded, Mercedes says there is now a choice of five 18"light-alloy wheels, all in all, including one in a new 5-twin-spoke design in conjunction with the AMG Line.

The interior sees new seat covers and trim parts, as well as chrome-plated controls. The highlight here is a much slimmer-looking freestanding 20.3cm media display with a new-style glass cover, an optional feature for the Audio 20 CD system.

New trim elements in sail-look finish, matt black ash wood (in conjunction with Exclusive package), black DINAMICA microfibre (optional in conjunction with AMG Line) or aluminium with honeycomb grain.

There is also a revised range of seat covers: for the Exclusive package (optional extra) there is a new leather upholstery option in sahara beige/black, while the Urban equipment line is now available with a combination of ARTICO man-made leather/Maringá fabric in crystal grey or black. Customers opting for black can choose between designs with grey or blue top stitches.

LED headlights

The CLA is optionally fitted with LED High Performance headlamps (standard on the CLA 250 Sport and the CLA 45).

Mercedes says as all lights use LED technology, there is never a need to change a bulb over the entire service life of the vehicle.

An easier way to open the boot lid is via motion of the foot in the area of the rear bumper. The optional hands-free access is now included as part of the Keyless-Go Comfort package.

A trailer coupling is now available in conjunction with the AMG Line, too.
