The blue oval automaker has announced a new Carbon Series of the Ford GT - the lightest of the road-going supercars of the brand, and one that can be driven home from the race track.
The new limited-edition model drops approximately 18kg with a host of lightweighting, including carbon fibre wheels, a titanium exhaust, titanium wheel nuts and a lightweight polycarbonate rear hatch, with additional venting.
No comforts here
The GT Carbon Series retains some conveniences including air conditioning, radio and SYNC 3 - for those customers who want to drive to and from the track in comfort - however, luxuries including cupholders have been removed.

The third Ford GT special edition features more visible carbon fibre than any previous model, along with optional accent colours, to further stand out from the line-up.
"The Ford GT Carbon Series will stand out on the road with its striking, carbon-fibre-rich design and on the track with its athleticism.
All carbon everywhere
It is yet another example of how we can bring to life our Le Mans-winning supercar in new and exciting ways so our customer can share in that magical legacy," says Hermann Salenbauch, global director, Ford Performance.

Customers can choose between four optional accent colours – silver, orange, red or blue – for the mirror caps, centre stripe and callipers. The Carbon Series also features a unique seat pattern with silver stitching that is repeated on the steering wheel as well as clear anodised paddle shifters and a unique badge for the instrument panel.

"This is an example of how we listen to our customers. While the Ford GT Competition model appeals to hardcore racing enthusiasts, we found more customers asking for more exposed carbon fibre with the air conditioning and radio still intact. So we developed the Carbon Series to satisfy that need while providing a distinct look," said Lance Mosley, marketing manager, Ford Performance.
Approved customer applicants can order the Ford GT Carbon Series now. Approximately one special model can be built each week.
