Porsche's 992.1 GT3 is being tested at Germany's Nurburgring, and for the first time we're able to hear its flat six-cylinder engine at full chat.

Autocar reported a prototype going track development and importantly, Porschefiles be happy, it retains the naturally-aspirated 4.0-litre engine.

The spy footage shows a black model sporting twin centrally-mounted exhaust pipes and a rear diffuser. Car and Driver reports the new GT3 is likely to produce around 370kW from its high-revving 4.0-litre flat six Boxer engine.

Even more good news is that a six-speed manual option will be available alongside a PDK dual-clutch gearbox. The US publication says we can expect to see the GT3 later this year, but with the coronavirus wreaking havoc on the motor industry we'll wait for final confirmation.

In the meantime, watch Autocar's video of the GT3 trundle around a German town and then scoot around the Nurburgring.
